Opportunities for Education and Public Outreach

NEPTUNE will be an incredible resource for science education in schools and universities and through museums and aquariums.

  • NEPTUNE community science programs will provide real time data and images, accessible over the Internet, for 20 years.
  • NEPTUNE involves biology, chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, geophysics, and physics.
  • Students and the public will be able to see scientific research in progress, and interact with scientists.
  • Proposals, scientific results and reports will be available to guide interpretation.
  • There is potential for student projects using NEPTUNE observations and for student-lead experiments collecting new observations.

The 20-year time frame is long enough to develop stable funding for educational uses of NEPTUNE, and for NEPTUNE to be incorporated in curricula where appropriate.

Making NEPTUNE useful for education and public information is an important factor in the design and planning process. Workshops are being scheduled as part of the US NEPTUNE feasibility study. The Canadian study will involve appropriate Canadian organizations in outlining plans for using NEPTUNE in education and public awareness in Canada.

If you are interested in participating in the NEPTUNE project please let us know.
