NEPTUNE Canada Ocean Observing Systems Workshop #2-
September 27-29, 2004 Summary
NEPTUNE Canada held the second of three workshops on September 27-29, 2004 at the Harbour Towers Hotel, Victoria, British Columbia .
Approximately 100 researchers attended the meeting during which significant advances were made in the preparation of proposals for community experiments to be initially deployed on the northern part of the NEPTUNE observatory on the Juan de Fuca Plate. These proposals are to be submitted to NEPTUNE Canada by January 5, 2005 . Themes included:
- Plate Tectonics Processes and Earthquake Dynamics
- Fluid Fluxes and Gas Hydrates
- Fluid Fluxes and Ridge Environments
- Ocean/Climate and Marine Biota
- Deep-Sea Ecosystem Dynamics
- Engineering and Computational Research
Draft initial Science Use Case Scenarios have been prepared and are now available for downloading. These will be worked on further at the November 22-23, 2004 meeting in Halifax.
